Welcome to MidWalesOsteopaths & OsteoScan
Simon Guinane and Tracey Jones are registered osteopaths in Powys close to the Wales and England border with Herefordshire. We practice osteopathy between the towns of Hay-on-Wye (famous for being “The Town of Books” and the Literary Festival) and Brecon (famous for walking in the Brecon Beacons). Where to find us. Many of our patients come from the surrounding areas as far north as Rhayader, Llandrindod Wells and Builth Wells, to the South from Crickhowell and Abergavenny as well as Llandovery and Hereford.
Osteopathy helps for a number of conditions but is particularly known for seeing patients with back pain, sciatica, neck pain, headaches and sports injuries. Conditions we often see. As well as using traditional osteopathic techniques (such as articulation, soft tissue, manipulation and exercise) we may also use acupuncture (or dry needling) for pain relief and control.
In 2010 we purchased a mobile peripheral dexa scanner; this is used to assess bone density. We recognised that the population is becoming older and that osteoporosis (brittle bones) is an increasing problem as it increases the risk of fracture following a fall. Our scanner can detect the thinning of bones which ensures our treatment to be as safe as possible while also increasing the likelihood of receiving the correct treatment for bone density problems. It is safe, quick, affordable and the only one in the Powys. Osteoscan
We also offer a bone density screening service for residential/nursing homes which can include a falls assessment where we will identify individuals who are at increased risk of falling, the reason they are most likely to fall and we will implement a regime to reduce the probability of falling.
